True Bruin and Grad Week 2011 Activities (2012 activities will be posted in early summer)

The calendar below lists many of the major graduate student events going on in the days before classes start. In addition to the activites listed here, your department will most likely also host an orientation just for students in your school or program. For more inforamtion about departmental events, please contact your department.

NISSO - New International Students & Scholars Orientation

The Dashew Center Orientation Program is a comprehensive one-day orientation program designed specifically for new international students and scholars at UCLA. The purpose of the program is to help incoming international students adjust better to their new lives in the United States, Los Angeles, and UCLA.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet other international students and scholars from over 120 countries. You will also have the opportunity to interact with U.S. students and create friendships that will last throughout your stay at UCLA and perhaps beyond!

Weyburn Terrace Resource Fair and Weyburn Terrace Social

Residents of Weyburn Terrace will have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with campus and community resources at the Weyburn Terrace Resource Fair (2-5pm) and to meet and socialize with other members of the Weyburn Community at the Social (7-10pm). Food and drinks provided at the social. Proof of age required.

Graduate Student Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Welcome Day

The UCLA Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Graduate Welcome Day is an event for all graduate students that focuses on issues facing underrepresented students. New graduate students will have the opportunity to learn about resources, to network, and to get acquainted with the university in a supportive environment. The goal of this event is to help new graduate students make personal connections and to promote a healthy campus climate, personal well-being, and academic success. The event is free of charge and will be followed by a dinner for all registered attendees.

Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Graduate Welcome Day will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011. All newly admitted graduate students are welcome to RSVP for this event.

Please note that this event is not a replacement for the campus-wide Graduate Student Orientation. Students who attend this event should also attend the Graduate Student Orientation on September 16.

Teaching Assistant Conference

The 38th Annual Teaching Assistant Conference offers teaching panels, live classroom teaching practice, lesson planning, grading, and technology workshops. Free and open to all UCLA graduate students. First-time and future TAs encouraged to attend!
