Julia Bigwood (she/her)

InterGrad Dialogue Program Coordinator

Program:Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences

I'm a second-year doctoral student here at UCLA with a background in aerospace engineering. My current research is focused on the implications of climate change on the global Carbon cycle. I study the efficiency of photosynthesis in the tropical rainforest and how well plants absorb carbon dioxide under increasingly water stressed conditions due to rising temperatures and increased aridity.

I'm so excited to help facilitate meaningful conversations and connections between graduate students as an InterGrad Dialogue Program Coordinator. Along with the other two InterGrad Dialogue Coordinators I'm hoping to help create a welcoming environment for graduate students to share their unique backgrounds and perspectives to enrich the graduate experience.

Fun Fact:I play the trumpet in the UCLA band and sing in the chamber choir in my free time!

Advice for Graduate Students:Build downtime and time to socialize into your schedule and treat it like you would an academic commitment!
